Kentucky has picture-perfect horse farms, cities with exciting jobs and entertainment, and a mild climate year-round. Tourism, manufacturing, and natural resources are important in the economy. Over half of Kentucky's land area is classified as timberland, and it is third in the nation for both timber and coal production. Several universities, colleges and technical schools provide arts degrees, and there is a state-sponsored push for continuing education options throughout Kentuckians' lifetimes.

Eastern Kentucky University, Department of Art

Richmond, KY US

About: EKU is a comprehensive public university located in the heart of the beautiful Bluegrass region of Kentucky. The Department of Art offers two undergraduate degree programs and three minors in eight studio areas, art education, and art history. There are more than 300 majors, and fourteen full-time faculty who are actively engaged in their creative and scholarly fields. At Eastern, the emphasis is on teaching, and the best possible learning environment, which keeps our student/faculty ratio low while our spending per student on facilities and equipment is very high. In some instances, our studios can match the physical plant standards of many graduate programs. But Eastern is also an institution of opportunity, with open admissions policies in effect. While this means that we have no portfolio requirement to become a freshman art major, we still graduate students of the highest potential, who are in demand by both employers and graduate schools in the visual arts fields.
